Getting Started
When you enter Munising Family Chiropractic for your first visit, you'll be greeted and welcomed by Steffanie at the reception desk. As in any health care relationship, we first need to gather some general information about you and your health and health history. It should take you 15 minutes or less to fill out all of the new patient paperwork, and how you do it is entirely up to you! You may choose to:
- Come in 15 minutes in advance of your first appointment. Enjoy a cup of coffee and get a feel for our office while you fill out the forms at our reception kiosk.
- Obtain the forms before your first visit and fill them out at your leisure. Just don’t forget to bring the completed forms with you to your first appointment! It's easy to obtain the forms.
- Stop in to pick them up anytime we are open.
- Ask Steffanie to mail them to you, if time allows.
- Print them at home from our website where they can be found above
Examination and Consultation
Next you'll meet Dr. Kolbus and spend a few minutes in our comfy consultation area discussing your health concerns and goals. This first visit is designed for Dr. Kolbus to learn about your history and expectations for chiropractic care.
Dr. Kolbus will then escort you to the Exam and X-Ray room, where he will perform a complete chiropractic exam. This will include a full physical exam, as well as specific orthopedic and neurological tests to assess:
- Range of motion
- Muscle tone
- Muscle strength
- Neurological integrity
- Postural analysis
For some patients, X-rays will be necessary. X-rays help Dr. Kolbus to rule out serious conditions which should be referred to a medical doctor, and assist in his development of the most effective treatment plan for you. If you do need X-rays, Dr. Kolbus will take them right there in the exam room.
You may have had X-rays taken recently. If these X-rays were taken by a chiropractor, please fill out a Records Release Form at the reception desk and Steffanie will take care of getting your X-rays to Dr. Kolbus for review. If your X-rays were taken for some reason other than chiropractic care, Dr. Kolbus will discuss with you whether or not you should fill out a Records Release Form.
Depending on your individual health history, Dr. Kolbus may also request that you fill out a Records Release Form so that he can review pertinent medical or chiropractic records.
So that Dr. Kolbus can best assess your condition using the information gathered from your records, exam and possible X-rays, we schedule a second appointment with you to discuss the doctor’s findings, his recommended care, and to get your first chiropractic adjustment. Ideally this appointment will be the next day after your exam and consultation.
Patients who have been under active chiropractic wellness care will be expedited through this process. Under extenuating circumstances, other patients may be adjusted on their first day.
SECOND VISIT
Report of Findings
After Dr. Kolbus has reviewed your history, exam results and X-rays, he will develop a specific diagnosis. You will meet with Dr. Kolbus in the consultation area to discuss:
- How Dr. Kolbus can help you.
- What the specific recommendations are regarding your care.
- How much it is going to cost.
During this time, Dr. Kolbus may want to hear more about your history and goals. If you have any conditions which you need to seek other care for, Dr. Kolbus will tell you. He will talk with you about his recommendations for your chiropractic care and wellness. We love feedback!
Treatment
You will be adjusted at the conclusion of this appointment. Dr. Kolbus will give you a quick tour of the office and lead you to one of our adjusting rooms. Your first treatment may include spinal adjustment, spinal therapies and/or soft tissue therapies.
Treatment is interactive. Please feel free to talk with Dr. Kolbus and express any concerns you have about your adjustment.
Taking Charge
Munising Family Chiropractic promotes a high level of involvement from every individual in their own health. In fact, we believe that your wellness depends on your willingness to take charge of your health care.
Prior to leaving, you will be given information about wellness which relates to you and your family. In addition, you may receive instructions for home exercise and/or stretches to aid in your healing. If you are in pain when you first come to see us, your prescribed home therapy may include instructions for ice or heat application and advice to avoid certain activities or positions.
Every patient is unique and requires a customized wellness plan.
